Most online stores in the paving stone industry do not offer delivery by HIAB (lorry-mounted crane). This service is generally available only from local building suppliers or a small number of major building material sales leader, and usually requires prior arrangement as well as an additional fee.
Paving Slabs UK Standard Delivery – Tail Lift Kerbside Transport
At Paving Slabs UK, we use tail lift transport as our standard delivery method for stone pallets. This approach is widely used for one-way pallet transportation. With a tail lift, the driver can safely lower the pallet to the ground and then move it to the kerbside using a manual pallet truck. It is a convenient, cost-effective solution that requires only one driver to operate.
Kerbside Delivery & Driver Discretion
Once pallets are unloaded at the kerbside, the delivery is considered complete. Some customers may prefer the pallets to be placed further inside, but this must be agreed directly with the driver and is at the driver’s discretion. In line with standard policy across pallet transport companies, unloading is by default carried out at the kerbside. If a more suitable location is available on site, customers may request the driver to move the pallets there with a manual pallet truck; however, if conditions are unsuitable, the driver will only unload at a location they deem safe and practical.
About the Delivery Network
A typical UK delivery network operates around 200 depots, each with multiple drivers. As such, a customer’s delivery experience—whether positive or negative—does not directly reflect the service level of Paving Slabs UK. Once pallets have been dispatched from our warehouse, the delivery process is outside our direct control. Nevertheless, we partner with well-established and reputable logistics networks to help maintain a high standard of service.
Limitations of Tail Lift Transport (Returns)
Tail lift transport has limitations, particularly for returning pallets. Loads in the range of 900–980 kg typically exceed the capacity of standard tail lifts. In such cases, customers should consider alternative arrangements, such as vehicles fitted with higher-capacity tail lifts, cranes, or other specialised unloading equipment.
Arranging Returns
When arranging transport for returns, clear communication and prior agreement with the transport company are essential. This ensures the appropriate equipment and handling methods are available for the weight and nature of the pallets being returned, enabling safe and efficient handling at every stage.
