They can be used for paths, borders, landscaping details and appropriately specified block-paved areas where limestone is preferred to granite or sandstone.

The main advantage of natural stone block paving is the combination of durability, small-format layout flexibility and genuine material variation. Setts and cobbles can follow curves, form contrasting borders, define entrances and create detailed paving patterns that are more difficult to achieve with large-format paving slabs.

Surface performance varies according to the stone and finish. Cropped, riven, tumbled and flamed surfaces generally provide more texture than highly processed smooth finishes, while suitability for vehicle traffic depends on the individual product, paving thickness, supporting construction and installation method rather than the stone name alone.

For complete paved areas, select the material according to the required appearance, expected traffic and project specification rather than colour alone. Granite is generally selected where maximum wear resistance is important; sandstone provides stronger natural variation and traditional character; limestone provides a more restrained alternative within the natural stone range.
